Leandra called one Saturday afternoon from her work in West Hollywood. She had been in the office surrounded by producers and editors, computers and monitors and needed to come relax and volunteer some time outside the city. It been awhile since she owned a horse and missed them dearly. A recent transplant from a rural community in Oregon, the city was great for her career but something was lacking in her soul, horses! She called and came up within hours. We had a lot in common being in the same industry and I knew how much being back on a ranch would mean to this young girl who's heart was longing for the country.
So Leandra met the horses and fit in immediately. Being raised in a family that had given generously and unselfishly of themselves by adopting several needy children, Leandra has a huge heart for charitable and good causes. We were pleased to know her and she often assists us in many ways with her producing skills as well as her love and assistance to our animals. Nearly every weekend Leandra visits the ranch. Falling in love with the babies, Turtle was one of her favorites, she nick named her, "Wicca" and Wicca was always the first one that she greeted. Leandra was now spending her free time on the computer bidding for horse halters and supplies on Ebay. She is very generous and always brings food and supplies with her every visit.
Over the Christmas holidays we missed Leandra. Being very close to her family she joined them as they celebrated the holidays together. During this time some amazing mares arrived at Canyon Creek, we were all beside ourselves with their beauty and could not wait for Leandra to come up to meet them. As soon as she arrived back to Los Angeles she rushed up to the farm to see the baby herd and meet the new mares. Her heart skipped a beat when she saw Feralyn Black, a five year old Percheron/Quarter horse mare that could easily be mistaken for a Frisian. Feralyn was Leandra's Dream horse come to life, she could not stop talking about that black mare. She came to me after the weekend and slipped money in my hand to sponsor her as she scrambled back home thinking of a plan to adopt. In the meantime she is on hold and we are rooting for Leandra to make her dream come true. Feralyn is working well under saddle and Leandra has taken off with an 8x10 photo taken by our friend the photographer and also adopter, Rachael Waller. Rachael captured Feralyn several days after her arrival in a photo that describes her untamed yet gentle beauty to a tee.
This is her girl and the photo goes with her everywhere, to let everyone in Hollywood know that Leandra is in love with a horse. She is a very happy producer who now has a deeper commitment and reason for working so hard. Feralyn Isis Black is the name that Leandra has chosen and we are very happy that the two of them found each other. Leandra's color for Feralyn is Purple and so now she spends her free time combing ebay for purple leg wraps, halters, saddle blankets and even a purple and black saddle. (We think that is a little over the top, but if it makes Leandra and Feralyn Isis Black happy, then we are happy to!)
Thank you Leandra for being a great friend to the farm and loving Feralyn. We know that you will love and cherish our beautiful mare forever and we wish you both the very best! And those of you reading this can come meet Feralyn, she is here at the farm with us and is still in training, waiting for Leandra to climb aboard soon on a purple and black saddle!
