Not rain, not sleet, not even snow, will keep Pyruz away from his beloved horses! Here is a photograph of Pyruz and his new "son" Hugo hamming it up in the snow.
Pyruz first came to visit us when her heard about our mission. Pyruz is a passionate man. He is a musician and is crazy about animals. He owns two dogs and has admired horses and wanted to own them for as long as he can remember. As a young boy, he was always asking his father for a horse. Finally he made his own dream come true when he visited Canyon Creek Farm and one by one started falling in love.
He liked the looks of Alfie, one of our boarder's retired thoroughbreds here, so we appeased him and asked Alfie's owner, Katie, just how much she would take for Alfie! Katie's reply was, "No way, Alfie's not for sale, and even if he was, he's priceless!" So with that reply, Pyruz kept searching for an Alfie look alike. Suddenly one day after his frequent visits and attempts to remember all the babies by name... and who was still adoptable... he noticed a long leggy chestnut colt named Hugo Boss. "Who is this?" Pyruz questioned. " I think he likes me!"
We decided to put Hugo in our smaller baby paddock and let Pyruz decide if Hugo was indeed the horse for him. Nearly everyday Pyruz visited with carrots and treats and was soon shopping for halters. Hugo started to allow Pyruz to halter him and lead him any where he wanted. Also in the paddock was Demi, a beautiful red dun AQHA filly that Pyruz nicknamed "Princess Zeba" which means ornament or beautiful in his native language. Pyruz fell in love with his "Zeba" and decided to adopt the two of them together.
One afternoon I looked down from the house and noticed a man pushing a wheelbarrow back and forth from the paddock. I was wondering whose husband got talked into the cleaning chores. He did not look familiar to me, but with closer inspection I noticed that it was Pyruz! I distinctly remembered that Pyruz had told me upon arrival that he loved horses and now that he could finally afford to own them he would always hire help to clean up after them. He warned me ahead of time that he would never be caught picking up poop. There he was pitchfork in hand following around Zeba and Hugo cleaning everything in sight!
Pryuz is also seen often sitting with a feed bucket slicing up carrots and treats for not just his babies but all the horses here at the ranch. It is apparently one of his favorite pass-times. That and sitting nearby as his babies graze grass, I might find him there with them for hours. He tells me that he thinks it would be a great idea to read to them as well, so that they can get very familiar with his voice. I have asked him to write a song about them while he is sitting out there everyday, and he did! It is called "Fields of Hope" and is a beautiful ballad written for the horses that we have saved. It brings tears to the eyes of all of us here, even the boys! Pyruz is recording the song on his soon to be released album. We are so pleased that the horses are yet another inspiration to the talented people that we meet here. We are proud to have Pyruz as our friend and adopter. Thank you for your generous and kind heart. We love you Pyruz!
