The Ponders from Acton, California, own 12 acres of horse property very near our farm, they have been looking for a few horses. One for Scott the dad, and one to grow up with their adorable son Caleb. Michele contacted us from a photo of her dream baby, "Cherokee" that she saw on our website. We got calls form her weekly, "Is she here yet? " "When is she coming?" This was truly love at first sight and we can all agree, because Cherokee is just gorgeous. We all waited on her arrival and of course Cherokee was going to be placed on hold for Michele.
The day finally arrived and Cherokee was at the farm, petite and as cute as a button. Born in June she was one of the youngest of the foal crop. She was pure white and sorrel and managed to keep herself pristine in the lush pastures with mom in Canada. A very special perfectly marked medicine hat filly.
Michele and Caleb visited us nearly every day following little Cherokee around out in the baby pasture. " I touched her today." Michele told us. We had not worked with little Cherokee yet, as she was still quarantine, but her time was coming. We placed her in the stall as well as a few others ones that naturally paired up together. One of the horses was Apache, a super nice APHA stud colt that was quite long legged and very refined. These two paint babies got lots of comments as they are both exceptional. Shortly after their stall duty we moved them both to a smaller paddock and Michele and Caleb continued to visit. Apache was becoming a pocket pony and little Cherokee was leading the herd. Soon dad, was coming by also and was interested in adopting the both of the for the family. I received a call from him wanting to surprise Michele and Caleb with the two beautiful paint babies for Christmas! We all knew this day was coming and I tried to overlook them for fear of getting too attached. I found myself time and time again wanting to hide them both in a stall and keep them forever. But Michele and Scott assured me that they will be living just miles away and that we will be able to see them grow up. We love them as babies, but I can only imagine how nice they are both going to be as mature horses. Little Cherokee has a special nicker that I would every time I see her and Apache followed me everywhere.
Cherokee and Apache were moved to the new home in January. They both have a new in and out in a great barn and soon will have a huge pasture to grow up in. We miss them but we are very happy that Michele, Scott and Caleb found their dream horses! Thank you Scott, Caleb and Michele for letting us be the god parents of your two beautiful Paints. All of us here look forward to watching them grow up together with you!
