A very wonderful couple was visiting their family in this area, when they heard about our cause. They visited us, fell in love with the horses and wanted to help. Jack Lyon, and Georgia Waller, volunteered their time everyday and joined us to greet the first load of babies when they arrived in September. They immediately picked out 3 babies and had been keeping their eye on one of the mares here, a lovely foundation bred 6 year old AQHA mare appropriately named, Two Cute Two Skip. "Two Cute", as we had to call her, had arrived in August with her lovely red roan filly "Sydney", (who was also adopted by one of our volunteers, Joanne and John Fenton of Acton). Two Cute Two Skip, is a gorgeous 15.1 hand, red bay with a star. Her friendly personality and kind temperament along with her nice conformation, made her a real doll. So Jack had his eye on Two Cute. Unbeknownst to us, he was thinking about taking her back and training her for his personal ranch horse.
Jack and Georgia own a 1200 acre ranch in West Texas. Both of them are award winning artists and the nicest folk that you will ever meet. Georgia had taken Premarin for years, yet she was unaware of the connection between these horses and the drug. She tells us that she feels that the drug "only prolonged the inevitable - menopause". An avid humane society rescuer and supporter, her belief is that saving these horses would be healing for her. Great for the horses too! So they adopted 3 AQHA babies along with Too Cute, and hauled them back to their Texas ranch to grow up.
When they adopted the babies, they were delighted just to know that they were registered Quarter horses. The buttermilk buckskin filly, that they selected for their daughter Rachael, had incredible coloring. When I first saw her in Canada back in July, I made sure she was on the list. She was built like a little machine, very muscular and just outstanding. Turns out that when her registration papers arrived, she had Doc Bar just 3 back on her Sire's side. The dam was equally as well bred, as are the 2 other colts. The second buckskin, a stud colt was purchased for Rachael's husband Rod Rondeaux, a local stuntman and horse trainer. He will of course be training the horses for the family. You can visit their website at www.indianstunts.com to learn more about their ranch and also see Rachael's fantastic equine photography on their site (also at http://www.equinephotographers.org). Rachael tells us that the PMU horses gave her inspiration to jump start her photographic career again. She is a regular here at the ranch, a dear friend and talented artist who has adorned our walls with memories of each and every rescued horse.
Our new Texas friends, could have purchased any horse that they wanted, so it is just perfect that they opted to save 4 lives and at the same time are very happy with their selections. Without hesitation, Vikki and myself immediately put the funds back to rescue another load of displaced and threatened babies.
Meanwhile the babies and Two Cute, have arrived to their new homes in Texas. We get photos and updates from them on the horse's progress. We have made life long friends with Jack and Georgia and their wonderful family, as they return to visit us often. What joy these horses and their new owners have brought into our lives! Thank you Jack, Georgia, Rachael, Rod, and daughter Cheyenne, The Waller Clan from Aqua Dulce, California and West, Texas. All of us here at Canyon Creek Farm, appreciate your help, your support and your friendship beyond words.
