In the Summer of 1999, I got a wild hair. I listed and sold the manafacutred house that was on the property, online. I got ten hits in one day and a buyer came knocking. The house was soldm and off it went in sections to become a home for a older couple in Sacramento. Suddenly we had no place to live! So we purchase an RV and lived between that and the garage as we broke ground on our "dream house". With plans dreamed about for years, often sketched out on cocktail napkins, we designed a house that would be the family home to us and both sets of our aging parents. Acting as owner builders, all went as planned and by Christmas of 2001 we were decorating the tree and inviting guests into our new home. Things were great for a while but something was going on with Steve. His life and plans were changing and there wer not including me or the ranch. To make matters even worse, my Father became sick with cancer in Kentucky and my focus was now on taking care of him and my Mom. My Father passed 6 months later and it very clear upon my return that my relationship with Steve of 17 years was over.
Frightened and unsure of what might happen to the farm and all of our animals I was given the option to take over. It was a miracle to say the least as the ranch that we had given our all to would soon be having to support us now. "Us" was myself, three horses, two great danes, more cats that I could count, an inherited lizard and a disabled chicken. Steve moved out of state and I remained on the farm, my dreams had not changed and I now had no one to answer to. No reins so to speak. Dreams still alive I wa All the important men in my life were gone within a year.
