OUR Philosophy as a PMU Rescue.

At Canyon Creek Farm Horse Rescue, IT IS ALL ABOUT THE HORSES! And it is all about what is best for the horses, because from where they came from, we never want anything bad to ever happen to them again. Because of this, we never adopt our horses off of photographs alone. We require the prospective adopter to visit the horse many times and our experienced staff is on hand to address each adoption on a one to one basis. We know our horses very well and only help you pick the right horse. With this in mind we never ship our horses across country in hopes that they are going to be cared for adequately or given forever homes. Our intent is not add to the horse population by overwhelming a market with untrained, unadjusted, and possibly unsafe horses.
In return, we vow to be a forever home at any time for all of the horses that we have saved, whether they are placeable or become non placeable. With this commitment we remain loyal to the plight of the PMU horse. At this time, we are unable to accommodate any other type of horse rescues.

Our horses are available for permanent adoption to homes that meet our highest criteria.
Furthermore Canyon Creek Farm reserves the right to decline an adoption based on what our board of directors and advisors feel is best for each animal and the potential adopter.

Our other concern is that our horses are placed in homes where other horses are available to socialize. PMU horses are herd animals they thrive and rely on equine companionship.
We prefer that our horses are not bred. Even though many of our PMU horses are of outstanding breeding quality, every year we struggle to save more lives. With this in mind why risk breeding, when what you are dreaming about is on the ground and looking for a home?
We prefer that our horses are not ridden until they are fully developed and strong enough to handle the mental and physical stress. As a rescue we know that too many horses are started too young leading to long term problems. Your life time rescued partner deserves your patience.
We believe this is a life time partnership and one that needs to be nurtured. We must stress that horse ownership is a luxury and comes with a financial commitment towards the lifetime health and well being of the horse. Leasing or sponsorship is always an option if you are financially unable to provide for a horse. We suggest that our adopters carry medical insurance for their horses should the need arise.

We do not foster our horses. Every horse at Canyon Creek is a product of our program.
We prefer that our horses are not boarded where their feeding and care is the responsibility of another.
We prefer that our horses are not confined to stalls with little or no access to turnout.
We prefer that our owners either come to us with knowledge of proper horse care or they are able to stay with us and learn about about the commitment and responsibilities.

Our program here, for our Southern California community formed itself clearly out of need. We provide a safe haven for the many people who want to own horses but and have not owned for many years, and for the many people who have never owned, desire to own, but need guidance. We are proud to offer ongoing and continued support and instruction for our adopters and for those considering adoptions or sponsorships.
We hold monthly clinics and educational seminars and remain in contact with our extended family. We survive on good stories. Our goal and only goal, is to place the right horse with the right family. Our many years of experience owning, caring for and training horses allows us to patiently and respectably make these assessments. No one needs to feel pressured into this decision and every horse and adopter are given ample time to make the right decision. When a decision has to be made, it is made for the horse's best interest.
